A door “mullion” is the vertical element that forms a division between doors. However, when dividing adjacent window units, its primary purpose is to provide structural support to an arch or lintel above the window opening. Its secondary purpose may be as a rigid support to the glazing of the window. When used to support glazing, they are teamed with horizontal supporting elements called “transoms”. In the commercial door industry, the term is “floating mullion” is also applied to an interlock profile which is fitted in between a pair of double swing doors.
“Stick Sections”, are lengths of component frame material, and are used to produce transom, transom & sidelight, sidelight and borrowed lights. The components are cut to length, notched and/or mitered, assembled and welded into an assembly to meet the requirements and specifications of the door opening. Standard components are either open, anchoring into the wall, or closed mullions and divider sections. The individual sections and the welded assembly can be fabricated at B&M’s 10,000 sq ft fabrication shop.
